Because this program is cohort based, the program designers created a set of beliefs and values that each learning partner will need to subscribe to for success. Let’s start by taking a look at the core beliefs.
Core Beliefs
1. Problems can be opportunities for improvement: Setbacks often breed innovation, and can benefit you or your organization if handled appropriately. In order to grow, every setback should be viewed as an opportunity for improvement.
2. Tell me the truth, and tell me early: This means that when a problem arises, it is better to openly confront it with the help of colleagues, than to hide or ignore it. As part of this program, you will have the opportunity to work through ideas, concepts, and solutions with your cohort and faculty members, as long as you are willing to truthfully assess the situation in an appropriate timeframe.
3. Less is generally better is the third core belief, which supports the notion of quality over quantity. Complexity often breeds confusion, and this program can help you learn to find solutions to problems that are effective, enforceable, and repeatable.
4. Process focus is a critical skill. This does not mean that we want you to think inside the box, but encourages development of processes to uniformly address workplace issues.
5. System thinking is a critical concept. Systematic approaches are crucial for efficiency and effectiveness in the workplace. Waste is a thief, and the thorough the system, the more profitable the company will become.
6. Lean thinking involves everything that we do. As a learning partner, you will need to constantly look for ways to optimize your organization and create lean operations.
Core Values
1. Willingness to learn new things. Sometimes it can be difficult to give up on old ideas, but flexibility and open mindedness are critical to personal and professional growth.
2. Willing to learn from your peers. People too often dismiss ideas because they are not their own. This program allows you to see perspectives from different individuals in all different facets of industry.
3. Engage in active participation. Team building and engagement are critical to the success of the cohort, just as it is critical to success in the work environment.
4. Willing to change and grow. Whatever their experience is, nobody knows it all, and this program exists for you to further your knowledge base. This is why it is critical to be able to adopt ideas that may not be your current practice, even when they are not your own.
5. A commitment to sharing knowledge. The workplace typically does not foster this type of behavior, but the reason for cohort style learning, is so that you and your colleagues can learn from each others triumphs and tribulations.
6. An appreciation for global diversity. The marketplace is adapting, and globalization has set its hooks deep. Only by understanding diverse cultures, will you be able to successfully operate in this globalized environment.
This program is the platform for you to expand your knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles and their application to many different environments. Regardless of your current experience, there is always room to grow and widen your knowledgebase. That is why this program is for you.
